Are there specific topics or story types that are more successful on radio than others?

Radio reporters love stories that tie into their local market, current events, and their radio station’s demographics. For example, if a spokesperson grew up and went to school in the market you are pitching, make sure that’s at the top of the pitch. If a story fits with a timely news event in their market, make sure that’s first and foremost in your pitch. If it’s a gender oriented topic, tie it into the demographics of the radio station as a way to get the reporter’s interest.

Topics that radio stations love: celebrity interviews, medical breakthroughs, current events, issues concerning children, fun family events, consumer alerts, ways to save money, tips on buying new technology, sex, psychics, and political controversy.
