Latest Radio Industry Developments
Several late breaking developments came today as Sporting News Radio anounced it was re-branding as Yahoo Sports Radio. According to Radio-Info.com, sports experts from Yahoo will contribute to the radio shows, and the radio-generated content will in turn be used on Yahoo. There are no immediate changes planned for the current lineup, but listeners can expect the addition of one or two new shows.
In other merger news, Westwood One announced today that it will merge with Dial Global Radio Networks. In April, Westwood sold its Metro Networks business to Clear Channel. Now the remainder of Westwood is merging with Dial Global . The companies report that “the combination of assets creates a diverse radio programming, services, and advertising sales company,” according to Radio-Info.com.
On Sunday, group owner/operator of Rick Buckley of Buckley Radio, died due to an apparent brain aneurysm. Buckley radio owns powerhouse station WOR 710 in New York (710), along with news and music-formatted stations across the country. Rick was a past Chairman of the RAB board, past chair of the Southern California Broadcasters Association and an active member of the Broadcasters Foundation. The company announced that long time Chief Operating Officer Joe Bilotta will succee Richard Buckley as its President and Chief Executive Officer.
