founded in 1997. We specialize in utilizing radio techniques to secure earned placements for associations,
non-profits, government agencies, corporations and
clients of public relations firms. We utilize the following core services: radio media tours, audio news releases, audio bite lines, radio broadcast alerts, podcasts, and public service announcements.
Our Mission
We see you on the radio. Our number one goal is to pitch credible, newsworthy information to radio stations and networks seeking high quality content. Our award-winning expertise lies in matching the appropriate services to maximize our clients' exposure on the best possible radio stations and networks. Through our long-standing relationships with radio reporters and stations, we have the know-how and tenacity to get the best placements with the right contacts. Our station and network database is updated daily with potential to reach more than 13,000 outlets in more than 35 different formats. All services are available in English and Spanish.
Our Team
Susan Matthews Apgood (right),
president and co-founder and Lynn
Harris Medcalf (left), executive vice president
and co-founder, have more than three decades of combined
experience in the field and bring to the table a unique
focus on presenting information in a newsworthy fashion,
coupled with personal station relationships to ensure
success of radio media campaigns. Apgood and Medcalf
have expertise in matching the appropriate radio technique
with a client's message to maximize their exposure on
radio.
Susan Matthews Apgood is
active in a number of public relations associations,
including Washington Women in Public Relations (WWPR)
and the Public Relations Society of America. She is the Co-Chair of the PRSA-NCC Thoth Committee in 2009, and has been on the Thoth and Technology Committees in years past. She was
Public Relations Chair for National
Association of Women Business Owners Nation's Capital
Chapter in 2007 and 2008. Susan
is a founding member of the Boss Ladies networking group,
and is a contributing member of their blog at: http://capitalbuzz.blogspot.com. She frequently guest speaks in undergraduate and graduate
classes at George Washington University, Johns Hopkins University, Georgetown University and American
University. Susan received her MBA in finance from American
University and BA in economics from George Washington
University.
Lynn Harris Medcalf is
active in the public relations and communications industry
in Atlanta, including the Public Relations Society of
America. She is member at large for WUOG Alumni Board for 2009/2010. Lynn helped organize
and publicize a local documentary series in the Atlanta
area about voting and democracy, and co-produced a documentary
about the Women's March in Washington, D.C. Lynn received
a MA in journalism from University of Georgia and a
BA in radio, television, film from the University of
Georgia.
Curt Gill
operations manager, joined the News Generation
team in October of 1998. Prior to joining the team,
he had over four years experience in media and radio
starting with his tenure at the University of Georgia
before joining the team. Curt is well versed in communication
and marketing, having spent the four years prior in
various business enterprises. Eager to again be involved
in the media and public relations market, News Generation's
high energy team is the perfect home for his skills.
Carolyn Mulreed joined
the News Generation team in August of 1999. Carolyn
has experience working with start-up companies, government
agencies and local organizations. Her extensive
frontline experience in the service industry makes her
a natural as a media relations associate. Carolyn has
a BA in management science/marketing and a minor in
communications from Kean College in New Jersey.
Martha Sharan, operations
manager, became a member of the News Generation team
in December of 2000. A veteran journalist in broadcast
media, she is an institution in the Atlanta television
market. She has trained many up-and-coming journalists
in news-gathering and field producing and served as
a news consultant to independent television stations
in the Ukraine. She brings to her media relations position,
years of reporting experience and has a deep understanding
of the demands of busy newsrooms. Martha was promoted
to operations manager in November of 2001.
Valerie Kinsey Harris
joined the News Generation team in April of 2005. Valerie
has experience operating a boutique public relations
firm where she has managed Terance Mathis, former NFL
player for the Atlanta Falcons and Pittsburgh Steelers,
among others. She held key positions with Delta Air
Lines for more than ten years and is a member of the
Public Relations Society of America, the Atlanta Press
Club and the Atlanta Sports Council. Valerie earned
a B.A. in Economics from the University of North Carolina
at Chapel Hill.
Megan Heffernan
joined the News Generation team in June of 2006.
She has a varied background in television production,
community outreach, marketing, and theater. Most
recently she produced video marketing campaigns for
Starz Entertainment Group and before that worked
for several Public Television stations. Megan
has also hosted several travel/festival shows and was
a principal character in two award-winning independent
films. Megan received a BA in Communication Arts:
Radio, TV, and Film from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Michelle Garceau joined
the News Generation team in April of 2007. Michelle
has been a part of the media relations industry for
a number of years, both providing strategic counsel
and implementing broadcast outreach campaigns. Most
recently, she was the Vice President of Media Relations
at WCTV, the broadcast division of Weber Shandwick,
where she served as a main broadcast contact on the
Microsoft account. Prior to WCTV, she worked at Global
Communications & Television, Medialink Corporate
Television and News 12 Long Island. She holds a BS in
Mass Communication from the State University of New
York at Plattsburgh.
Mariela Romero joined the News Generation team in July of 2008. In Argentina, she received an Honorable Mention from the Conference of Argentinian Independent Film and Video Makers UNCIPAR for documentary editing. In Venezuela, her home country, Mariela produced a talk show for a network station Televen. Mariela served as a Language Specialist for Georgia Public Broadcasting’s multi-award winning Spanish-language educational series Salsa, then moved CNN en Español Radio. Mariela holds an Associate Degree in Journalism from the Catholic University of Argentina and a Degree in Mass Communication from the University of Belgrano.
