Summer is in full swing, and is a great time to get your voice, issue, or campaign out there! There are a few reasons why, and they may seem counterintuitive.
First, since newsrooms are not as jammed with pitch after pitch this time of year, there is greater opportunity to cut through the clutter and get your pitch heard. In addition, once your pitch is successfully made, the opportunities for airing tend to go up two and three fold. The number of airings in July and August, as well as December, tends to go up.
Second, radio listenership numbers are as strong in the summer as they are during other seasons of the year. They are just different in terms of how and where consumers are listening from. They may not be seated at office desks or in classrooms, but they are traveling to and from that long-awaited summer vacation or “working” remotely. They are listening wherever they go. Now is the time to get out there. Many potential listeners tend to be out of their normal schedules during the summer, allowing opportunities to reach those you may not normally.
