The new Nielsen DMA ranks are out, and there’s been a lot of movement among the markets. The new rankings saw 121 changes among the 210 designated market areas. Fifty-one cities found themselves moving up the list, while 70 slipped downward.
Out of the top 20 markets, there were nine changes. Washington, D.C. jumped from seven to six. San Francisco fell two spots, from six to eight. Phoenix rose from twelve to eleven. Boston went from nine to ten, and Tampa dipped from eleven to thirteen.
The majority of the changes were up or down a single spot. The largest market change was Yakima, Washington, that went up eight spots to 114. The biggest slide was by Norfolk, VA, which dropped five places to 47. The total number of homes that own a TV had a 2.3% drop from last years numbers. Click here to see how your local market faired.
